Position Summary:
Middlebury College School in Japan (https://www.middlebury.edu/schools-abroad/schools/japan) is a study abroad program, and its office is located on the campus of International Christian University in Tokyo. We are seeking a Student Affairs and Cultural Coordinator to begin on July 1, 2024. This is a full-time position, with the possibility of annual renewal contingent upon performance.
Job description: The successful candidate will be asked to teach one content-based Japanese language course at intermediate/advanced levels per term, design and implement co-curricular activities, plan and lead orientation programs, coordinate an internship program, and assist with administrative tasks in a study-abroad office. Other responsibilities include developing and maintaining local partnerships, handling on-site emergencies, and mentoring students. This position requires a lot of traveling to accompany students on arrival orientation and field trips.
Requirements: Candidates must have native or near-native fluency in Japanese. An MA in Japanese Pedagogy or relevant field of study and 2 or more years of experience teaching Japanese at the college level is strongly desired. Must be self-motivated, creative, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively as a team member. Must possess strong administrative skills, be well-organized, and detail-oriented. Candidates must also already have work authorization in Japan.
