Japanese Language Senior Lecturer and Lecturer

The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for full-time Teaching Track positions in Japanese language at the ranks of Senior Lecturer and Lecturer to begin in Fall 2025. Responsibilities include teaching or co-teaching all levels of modern Japanese language, supporting curriculum development, and creating/expanding teaching materials. Senior lecturer is expected to also lead and coordinate with other instructors in the Japanese language section to further develop and enhance the curriculum. Applicant Qualifications: Candidates for the rank of Senior Lecturer must have a PhD in Japanese linguistics, communicative/proficiency-based language pedagogy, second-language acquisition or a related field; native or near-native proficiency in Japanese and English. Candidates must also have a minimum of the equivalent of six years of fulltime teaching experience and an extensive record of excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level, advising, and service (such as mentoring and programmatic planning) consistent with Washington University’s teaching-track policies. Japanese part-time teaching position

Position Summary: The Foreign Language department is seeking a Japanese adjunct professor to substitute and/or teach Elementary and Intermediate level Japanese language courses in the evening on Zoom or in person. JCCC is located in Overland Park, KS, the second largest city in the state of Kansas and part of the greater Kansas City Metro. The Kansas City Metro is known for its museums, restaurants, and music and art scenes. JCCC is similarly dedicated to creating and maintaining a rich cultural community, with an award-winning contemporary art museum and center for the performing arts located on campus. The Foreign Language Department is part of the Communications Division. Many of our students are non-traditional, military veterans, immigrants, international and first-generation college students. JCCC has a diverse student population and is dedicated to increasing its diversity. The successful applicant for this job will teach the equivalent of 5-10 credit hours per semester in Japanese or will serve as a substitute for day and/or evening courses.
