Middlebury School in Japan

The Middlebury School in Japan, based at International Christian University in the Mitaka neighborhood of Tokyo, is designed for students at the intermediate-advanced level of Japanese who are committed to developing their language skills. All students on the program adhere to the Middlebury Language Pledge®, a commitment to linguistic immersion while abroad.

Students take a combination of Japanese language courses, program-organized courses in cultural exploration and reflection, and courses at the university alongside Japanese students. Students also have the opportunity to pursue community engagement and internship activities.

In order to be eligible for admission to the School in Japan, students must have completed a minimum of two years of college-level Japanese or the equivalent. Those who need further preparation are advised to attend the eight-week Middlebury Japanese School on the Middlebury College campus.
