Exam Levels and Categories レベルとカテゴリー

The exam currently has three levels. Students, based on their background and learning experience, can participate in one of the following levels of the exam. The duration of Japanese study should be used as a guide. Teachers should check the information below and NJE Guidelines to determine which level is appropriate for their students.

NJE は三つのレベルがあります。受験者の学習歴、学習期間をもとに先生が以下のテストレベルを選択します。先生はどのレベルが最も適しているか、以下のチャート、および NJE Guidelinesを参考に決定してください。

Level 1:
Roughly Novice Mid

Middle/Junior High School: Regular:
For middle/junior high school students who have taken the equivalent of a half year of high school Japanese
高校レベルの半年分の学習歴に相当するレベル(先生がレベル1の問題をご確認ください)
High School: Regular:
For high school students whose performance is approximately at the level of the second term of their first year of Japanese at high school.
およそ高校1年目2学期目に相当するレベル
College: Regular:
For College students whose performance is approximately at the level of the first term of their first year of Japanese at college.
およそ大学1年目1学期に相当するレベル
Level 2:
Roughly Novice High
およそ初級上
Middle/Junior High School: Regular:
For middle/junior high school students who have taken the equivalent of 1 ½ years of high school Japanese
高校レベルの1年半分の学習歴に相当するレベル(先生がレベル2の問題をご確認ください)
High School: Regular:
For high school students whose performance is approximately at the level of the second term of their second year of Japanese at high school.
およそ高校2年目2学期目に相当するレベル
College: Regular:
For College students whose performance is approximately at the level of the second term of their first year of Japanese at college.
およそ大学1年目2学期目に相当するレベル
Level 3:
Roughly Intermediate Low
およそ中級下
High School: Regular:
For high school students whose performance is approximately at the level of the second term of their third year of Japanese at high school.
およそ高校3年目2学期目に相当するレベル
High School: Additional:
Students with additional language learning experience may only take the Level 3 exam.

  • The student has grown up in a home where Japanese is the primary language used for communicating with at least one of the family members.
  • The student has been enrolled in a Japanese immersion program (including dual language and bilingual programs) for 3 years or more during Grades 4-8.
  • The student has lived (after age 10) in Japan for more than one school year.
  • The student has studied in Japan for more than six months within the past 3 years.

上記の学習歴以上の経験がある者:

  • 家庭での使用言語が日本語で家族の最低一人と日本語でコミュニケーションをとってきた者
  • 4−8年生の間に3年以上イマージョンプログラムに在籍していた者
  • 10歳以後において、1学年以上日本に在住していた者
  • 過去3年間に6ヶ月以上日本で学習した者
High School: Other:
High school students in level 4 or AP classes may take the NJE.
高校でレベル4またはAPクラスに在籍している者
College: Regular:
For College students whose performance is approximately at the level of the second term of their second year of Japanese at college.
およそ大学2年目2学期目に相当するレベル
College: Additional:
Students with additional language learning experience may only take the Level 3 exam.

  • The student has grown up in a home where Japanese is the primary language used for communicating with at least one of the family members.
