Lecturer on Japanese Horror Film - Summer Course

The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications from qualified lecturers to teach one 6-week summer course in East Asian Film: Special Topics in Genre – Japanese Horror Film. This course is taught in English.

Course EALC 181 East Asian Film: Special Topics meets MTWTHF 4pm- 6pm, July 3 – August 11, 2017. No alternative times can be considered. There is no prerequisite for this course.

The Summer 2018 East Asian Film, Special Topics in Genre will follow a similar schedule.

We are seeking a pool of outstanding lecturers in East Asian film and cultural studies with an emphasis in Japanese Horror Film for Summer 2017 able to draw from primary and secondary sources in film criticism, literary theory, gender studies and cultural history. All materials will be in English translation.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): teaching one intensive summer course in film and cultural studies; supervising graders; holding office hours, assigning grades, preparing course materials, maintaining a course website and compiling teaching materials and interacting with students via email and/bCourses.

Minimum Basic qualifications (by time of application):
M.A. or equivalent degree is required in a relevant field by the time of application.

Additional Qualifications (by start date):
Proficiency in an East Asian language. Must be eligible to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications (by start date):
Ph.D or equivalent degree in a relevant field by start date. Experience in teaching film courses at the college level and experience with computer-assisted instruction highly desirable.

Salary:
Salary is commensurate with teaching experience. The starting minimum full-time equivalent salary is $ 52,099 - $ 158,270 in accordance with the current Unit 18 Lecturer salary scale and its provisions.
