Lecturer in Japanese Language, Literature, and Culture

The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, in New Brunswick, NJ, invites applications for an annual appointment for a full-time, non-tenure-track position as a Lecturer in Japanese beginning Fall 2017. The position will be a one-year contract, with the possibility of a one-year renewal pending continued need, and programmatic justification. Salary and title to be commensurate with qualifications and experience; the position carries a full package of University benefits.

Teaching duties for the position (of up to 21 credit hours, or 7 classes, will be a combination of courses in Japanese literature, language, culture and civilization, depending on the qualifications of the candidate and the needs of the department.

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications are PhD, or ABD, in a Japanese humanities field, such as literature, history, or religion, and native or near-native fluency in both Japanese and English. Candidates should show evidence of commitment to dynamic and effective teaching and demonstrate preparedness to teach general courses in Japanese literature and civilization; the ability to teach language courses is also important. The ideal applicant should have experience teaching Japanese literature and language courses at the college level.
