Visiting Instructor for Summer Program in Modern and Classical Japanese

The Kyoto Consortium for Japanese Studies seeks a Visiting Instructor to teach modern Japanese at the intermediate or advanced level in summer 2018. The eight-week Summer Program in Modern Japanese ( will begin on Wednesday, 23 May and conclude on Friday, 22 July 2018. Applicants should be currently teaching at a university in the United States, or teaching at a university in Japan and have prior experience teaching all levels at a university in the United States.

KCJS Summer Programs offer intensive training in modern and classical Japanese for highly motivated undergraduate and graduate students. The modern Japanese program offers four levels: 2nd-, 3rd-, 4th-, and 5th-year courses. The Visiting Instructor will team-teach at least two sections of modern Japanese classes at either the intermediate or the advanced level. Class size will be kept small (approximately 8-10 students per section for the intermediate level and 5-7 students per section for the advanced level).

In addition to a competitive salary, KCJS will reimburse fare covering one round trip between the instructor’s permanent residence in Japan and Kyoto. A US-based instructor will also be reimbursed for round-trip airfare between the United States and Japan up to US$2000. KCJS will also provide housing in Kyoto and a daily commuting allowance to and from Doshisha University
