The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Indiana University Bloomington’s Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Visiting Assistant Professor of Japanese Language and Linguistics, to begin August 1, 2025. The successful candidate will be able to teach Japanese language and linguistic courses.

Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in Japanese linguistics, language pedagogy or a related field. ABD candidates may be considered but it is expected that a selected candidate will have a doctoral degree in hand by August 1, 2025. The candidate should have native or near-native proficiency in both Japanese and English with one year’s experience teaching at the college level in the United States. Ability to teach Introduction to Japanese Linguistics or a Japanese-related content course in English is a plus.

Application materials should include the following: Cover Letter, Curriculum Vitae, a sample syllabus for Japanese language class (preferably first- or second-year level), a statement of teaching philosophy, and contact information for three (3) references to provide letters of recommendation.
