My current issue of interest is access to Japanese language education, both for students from geographic areas that do not often teach Japanese and students from marginalized communities who might not have role models or means to engage with Japanese language and culture outside of school. In order to establish an inclusive classroom and welcome all students, I am especially interested in the idea of how to best teach concepts of identity and empower students to express themselves in Japanese. My long-term goal is to create communities of life-long independent language learners.
