Membership
in AATJ (American Association of Teachers of Japanese) is on a calendar-year basis
and entitles you to:
- receive the AATJ Newsletter Oshirase (four issues annually);
- for an additional $5, receive 2 issues annually of the award-winning journal Japanese Language and Literature and gain access to the complete contents of back issues (42 volumes) through
the password-protected JSTOR online digital
archive;
- attend at member rates, and propose presentations for, two annual conferences, the Annual Spring Conference in conjunction with the Association for Asian Studies (AAS) Annual Meeting, and the ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) annual conference in November;
- read and post job opening announcements and
other information on AATJ's web site;
- receive preferential consideration for workshops and other professional development
opportunities, including the nationally recognized JOINT program of online courses for Japanese language teachers;
- nominate outstanding students for membership in the Japanese National Honor Society, at either the high school or the college level;
- support and become a member of a regional or state Japanese language educators' association concurrent with your national AATJ membership;
- offer participation to students in AATJ-sponsored contests, exams, and other activities;
- participate in Special
Interest Groups on professional development,
heritage language education, study abroad, language for specific purposes, and other topics;
- benefit from the Association’s
ongoing efforts to promote Japanese studies
and enhance the quality of education in Japanese
language, literature, linguistics, and culture.
