Membership in AATJ (American Association of Teachers of Japanese) is on a calendar-year basis  (from January 1 to December 31 each year).

Membership Benefits

  • attend at member rates, and propose presentations for, two annual conferences;
  • participate in professional development opportunities;
  • nominate outstanding students for membership in the Japanese National Honor Society;
  • become a member of a regional or state Japanese language educators’ association concurrent with your national AATJ membership;
  • offer participation to your students in AATJ-sponsored contests, exams, and other activities;
  • participate in Special Interest Groups on professional development, heritage language education, assessment, study abroad, and other topics;
  • benefit from AATJ’s efforts to advocate for the study of Japanese and other languages.
