Professional Development

ATJ members have many opportunities for continuing education, training, and development of their classroom teaching and research skills.

The annual ATJ Conference offers opportunities for members to present their research and to hear about the latest developments in pedagogy, linguistics, second language acquisition, literature research and teaching, and other topics related to the teaching and learning of Japanese language and culture.

ATJ’s journal, Japanese Language and Literature, accepts submissions from members in all the subject areas in which members specialize: classroom pedagogy, SLA, linguistics, literature, culture.

The Alliance of Associations of Teachers of Japanese offers numerous opportunities for teachers, including workshops, seminars, and the JOINT program of online courses for Japanese language educators.

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program offers, through its website, a wealth of resources for the professional development of teachers, even if they are not participating directly in the AP© program.
