Japanese Teacher at High School Level

Applications are being accepted by the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools for a Japanese Teacher at the high school level for the 2010-11 school year. Licensure or eligibility for licensure in Japanese is required. Candidates must be designated or be eligible to be designated as HIGHLY QUALIFIED in Japanese. Previous teaching experience at the high school level is preferred..

The position is full-time, with a 10-month teaching schedule. Salary is at the current NC state salary schedule plus a 12% local supplement.

Immersion Teaching Position

John Stanford International School is an innovative language immersion school where students learn half of the day in English and the other half of the day in Japanese or Spanish. We are currently looking for a 1.0 FTE Japanese immersion teacher who will be teaching either kindergarten or first grade and who currently has or will be able to obtain a Washington State K-8 Elementary Education Teaching Certificate.

Japanese immersion teachers at JSIS teach math, science, and Japanese literacy completely in Japanese. Requirements for this certificated teaching position include: native or near-native Japanese speaking skills, the ability to design and implement lessons with both content and language objectives, skills in scaffolding language to support non-Japanese-speaking students, the ability to collaborate with others, a positive approach to working with students, and a love and appreciation of culture and global education.
