Matthew Ricca
I am currently seeking a Japanese language teaching position at the college, high school, or middle school level. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with Honors from the University of Arizona in May 2008, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in East Asian Studies (with a focus on Japanese linguistics), and in May of this year (2010) I obtained a Master of Arts degree in Japanese Linguistics (with a focus on language pedagogy). Throughout the two years of my graduate program, I served as a teaching assistant for my department, leading university-level classes in introductory (first and second semester) Japanese. During the summer of 2009, I was also a private in-home Japanese tutor for a family preparing to spend six months in Japan, including three pre-/teenage children. In addition to Japanese, I have also formally studied Russian (my undergraduate minor), Spanish, and Italian, complementing my experience as a language teacher with that of a language learner. As such, I am able to keep both sides (instructor and learner) in perspective when teaching, negotiating the two in order to privde the most effective and enjoyable learning experience possible for my students. It is this passion that has led me to the decision to pursue a career in Japanese language education. I currently reside in Tucson, Arizona, and though I would prefer to stay as close to the state as possible, I am willing to relocate. If you would like to contact me, please feel free to do so at:
